Media Release: Barrier lowered for NZ farmers moving into digital farm record keeping

29th May 2026 -

Farm management platform Trev has announced that Trev Notebook is now available free, giving NZ dairy and red meat farmers an independent digital platform designed to simplify everyday farm management.

Digital farm record keeping is becoming a core part of modern farm management, as farms face growing pressure around compliance, coordination and day-to-day operational visibility.

Recent research from the Survey of Rural Decision Makers found 68% of respondents said productivity gains influence technology adoption, highlighting the growing focus on operational efficiency across the sector.

“We’re seeing farming become increasingly driven by speed, visibility and good information,” says Trev CEO Scott Townshend.

“The farms getting ahead are the ones recording information earlier, keeping teams aligned, and making quicker decisions day to day. We believe digital record keeping is becoming a foundational layer for modern farm management, and we want to make that accessible to every farm.

“A big part of this is lowering the barrier for farmers getting started with digital record keeping and making everyday farm information easier to record, organise and act on.”

Notebook is designed to help farmers capture and organise everyday farm information in one place, from compliance and operational records through to team tasks, farm events and on-farm activity tracking. Farmers can record land, livestock, feed, nutrient and animal health events directly from the paddock using web, iOS and Android.

“Farms are managing more moving parts than ever before. Teams are larger, compliance requirements are increasing, and having clear, trusted records is becoming increasingly important for running efficient farm businesses.”

Rather than replacing existing systems, Trev says Notebook is intended to give farmers a simple digital starting point that fits into the way farms already operate.

“We want to make it easier for farmers to take that first step into digital record keeping, while knowing the systems they choose today can safely and securely grow with the farm over time.”

“Once information is being recorded consistently and in a structured format, it becomes much easier for farmers to connect systems, support quality assurance requirements and build a clearer picture of farm performance over time.”

While Notebook focuses on everyday farm record keeping and organisation, Trev’s paid Essential and Pro plans are designed for farms wanting deeper operational reporting, performance insights and integrations.
